Devi Saraswati

My Honorable Teachers

Hindi (हिन्दी)

The relation of a teacher and a student is much like a mother and a child. If it is not so, it means eather the student is not a good student or the teacher is not a good one. The work of a teacher is not limited to the classroom but it is beyond that. Many teachers taught me different subjects. Many of them were very good at their subjects but I am not mentioning their names in this list. It doesn't mean that I don't respect them but here I am mentioning about only those who has their impact on my life. They made my personality. What is relevant here is not the way they teach me but the way they treat me.

The order of the names is not based on my preferences but it is in the order of their arrival in my life (The above list is ascending and the below one is descending).

As I have told you about her in My Knowledge section, she is behind all my successes in the field of computers. I have heard that simplicity is the trait of great people. She was(is) simply great.

She taught me 'Pascal' in B.Sc. Ist year. Once in the class she told me to solve a problem on the black board and I did so but she told me that something was wrong. However, I insisted that it would work. She took it as a challenge and asked me to show that to her on computer in lab. After class, I showed her my program and it did not work but still I insisted that it should work. She went to staff room and I started debugging the code. After some time I found that, my idea was correct but mistake was somewhere else so I made it good and ran it. It worked fine so I went to staff room and called her to lab but even this time the program failed to work as desired. She again went to staff room smiling on my foolishness. Actually, somebody had changed the code when I was in the staff room. This time when the program started working I called her from the lab (it is a bad manner but I was afraid that somebody would again change the code). She never minded my manner and came to lab. When she found the program, working fine, she checked it thoroughly and then she even thanked me to show a new idea to do that work.

I have never seen a person with such a cool and patient brain. Her egoless personality touched me deep into my heart. A few years later when I watched a movie "Sur", the above incident got refreshed in my mind and I wrote this in my notes :-

Every student has a power to be better than his teacher but only the teacher has a power to get it out of him/her and it shows the great beauty of the relationship.

I think Ms. Neeta Mehta also had these properties but at that time, I was a very little kid so I hardly remember anything about her.

He has a very pleasing personality. His behaviour towards the students was remarkable. He always give equal attention to each individual student. His way of teaching was also outstanding. I still remember how he used the classroom door to explain the moment of inertia.

She taught me in class 5th. Although, I don't support being aggressive with the students but somehow she proved that it works. Actually once, I solved a problem of maths incorrectly, so she slapped me and call me "Moorkanan" (a dumbhead) and I know that word made me get 49 out of 50 in maths. She is also important to me as she made me taste the great success. She was behaind my top rank in district at that class.

It dosen't mean that aggressiveness works. I also had a teacher whose aggressiveness made my life worse. So, what I want to say, may be expressed with this verse:-

Guru kumhar sis kumbh hai, Garh gaeh karhe khot.
Bhitar hath sahar de, Bahar mare chot..
-Sant Kabirdas ji

Which means that teacher is just like a potmaker who beat the pot from outside but support it from inside. So, as much aggressive you are, you must also be that much supportive and she is perfectly fit on this definition. A perfect balance!
